Welcome!

 Hello! Welcome to my my page, dedicated to reviewing and reflecting on my own teaching experiences throughout my master's course.

To start off with, my name is Karina Duszenko and I consider myself to be both Polish and English as from the age of 7 I have lived in England where I completed my bachelor degree in English with History. Over the past few years I have had various tutoring experiences with learners both younger and older and it has set me on the path of becoming an English teacher. 

Last year (2022) I decided to move to South Korea in order to work as an English teacher for (mainly) Elementary school children. It was somewhat of a trial period for me as my experiences were to decide if I wanted to pursue teaching in the future. It ended up being a phenomenal experience that I will gladly tell anyone about (as some of my friends may testify) and has opened many new doors for the future.

I hope that with this project, my understanding for the role and love for teaching with increase exponentially. I'm excited to see where it takes me!

Micro Teaching - Grade 5 (2)

Microteaching - Grade 5   As with the previous one, the next set of microteaching activities was done in a single grade 5 class, this took a span of 2x45min lessons in which the students were reading on the topic of volcanos. I have attached my lesson plan for this class and overall, everything went pretty smoothly as we were able to get through the whole lesson plan without many issues. This was likely because it was a grade 5 class with about 16 students and I was a new teacher for them, making them more focused and non-disruptive. The first activity with which I started the lesson was a YouTube video ( https://youtu.be/lAmqsMQG3RM?feature=shared ) about volcanos. It was a simple and easy-to-understand introduction to open up the lesson. After the lesson, my tutor mentioned that she liked that I used the video, stating that she had used that exact video before. How can I foster a classroom environment that encourages meaningful interactions and cooperative learning in an English language classroom? Observations Through my observations I was able to witness the styles of different teachers, student and full-time teachers, so through those observations I was able to see how each of them looks at and deals with classroom participation and the interactions between their students. I found it interesting how each teacher dealt with their different age groups and the methods which each of them employed. Here are some of the most memorable moments from these lessons in regards to student participation. Video Link Please reflect on the lesson,  • Identify the phases and the aims of the lesson, Vocabulary recap (first storybook that had been read previously, reviewing known words) Storybook reading (reading a second book looking at new different animals and locations) Hide-and-seek game (a guessing game of where the puppy was) Aims of the lesson: To review and practice animal-based vocabulary and to put them in a location-based context. • Discuss the aids the teacher uses, The teacher used a few very useful tools to present the different stages of the lesson. Starting with a storybook, which I assume had been read by the class in a previous lesson, was a great way to review different vocabulary that the students had already known.
